The technical inspection

The technical inspection in Morocco: what is checked, and how often

Four types of inspection, a frequency set by law, ten groups of checkpoints. Nothing on the vehicle is dismantled.

Types of inspection

Which one applies to you

Periodic inspection

The compulsory one. It raises the standard of maintenance across the fleet, catches defects before they get worse, and governs whether the vehicle stays on the road. Nothing is dismantled.

Transfer inspection

Required before any sale or re-registration. It runs exactly like the periodic inspection. A pass report is valid for one month.

Follow-up inspection

Required when one or more defects were found at the periodic inspection. Only the parts that caused the refusal are rechecked, within one month of the first visit.

Voluntary inspection

On your own initiative, at any time, to satisfy yourself about the state of your vehicle. It runs like a periodic inspection, with no obligation.

Past the deadline, or lost the report? If the one-month deadline has passed, or the report cannot be shown to the inspector, the vehicle takes a full periodic inspection again.

Frequency

When your vehicle is due

For a private car, the first inspection falls in the six months before the fifth anniversary of first registration. After that it is renewed every year.

Vehicle useFrequency
Private cars Every year, from the 5th year after first registration
Taxis and road transport Every year, from the 1st year
Goods transport Every year, from the 1st year
Driving school vehicles Every year, from the 1st year
Public passenger transport, urban and intercity Every 6 months, from the 1st year
Mixed passenger transport Every 6 months, from the 1st year
Private group passenger transport Every 6 months, from the 1st year
Self-drive hire vehicles Every 6 months, from the 1st year

Our centre takes light vehicles and heavy vehicles of 15 tonnes and over. Online booking is for light vehicles only: for a heavy vehicle, please call the centre on 0524 01 32 30.

Other compulsory cases

Before any transfer of ownership. Every six months for passenger transport vehicles, urban public transport, driving school vehicles, taxis and hire cars. Every year for goods transport with a gross weight of 3.5 tonnes or more.

Follow-up inspection deadline

Whenever a defect calls for a follow-up inspection, the owner has one month at most from the first visit to take it.
